When Avengers: Endgame ended, we were left wondering what was going to happen with Bruce Banner as his arc seemed to run out in the MCU. With Professor Hulk’s cousin, Jennifer Walters getting her own series, we’ve recently learned some information regarding She-Hulk’s backstory.
Jennifer Walters isn’t as famous as her better known cousin Bruce Banner, but they do share a similar trait. They’re both superheroes in their own right. After all, one gives the other blood to save their life. So, happens now in the MCU with Smart/Professor Hulk and how will this play in to the She-Hulk series?
Well, it looks like we have an answer of sorts. According to an article by Comic Book, a casting call for the Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk character confirms that Bruce will play a role in the series. It also reveals that her origin in the show will play out as it does in the comics.
What we learn is fascinating because it looks like Bruce will be the one to give Jennifer the blood transfusion she needs to survive. However, it’s not known why she will need saving. In the comics, she was shot and required blood to survive. The only match was her cousin who at that point had become the Hulk. It’s unclear at the moment whether she she will suffer that fateful gun shot or another injury.
Since he had gamma radiation in his bloodstream, Bruce’s blood effected Walters which gave her the same abilities as him. However, unlike Banner, Jennifer can walk around as She-Hulk and operate as she normally would as herself. She can talk clearly where as Hulk cannot and he didn’t share Banner’s smarts.
It wasn’t until Avengers: Endgame that we actually got to see Bruce and Hulk ‘merge’ together to become the Smart Hulk. As Bruce says to Nat, Scott, and Steve he combined his brain with his alter ego’s brawn.
