While a royal baby is always a blessing, there is also a sad reality that accompanies Harry and Meghan’s Sussex Baby number 2 announcement…
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have announced they are expecting a second child. This child will be the fifth grandchild for Prince Charles and the second for Doria Ragland and will be the tenth or eleventh great-grandchild for The Queen and Prince Philip, according to the BBC. The news comes thirty-seven years to the day (Valentine’s Day) that the Prince of Wales and first wife, Diana, Princess of Wales were expecting their second son. However, Sussex Baby number 2 also holds a sad reality.
While the announcement of a new baby is exciting for any family, the royals will know that this new child will never meet them as the Sussexes now reside in the United States.
The baby is expected to be born in America where his or her parents currently reside with their oldest child, Archie. Meanwhile, the eldest Sussex child is due to turn two in May. The announcement comes just two months after Meghan had an op-ed published to The New York Times regarding a miscarriage she had suffered in July 2020. The piece was published in November 2020 around Thanksgiving.
While we are thrilled that little Archie is going to be a big brother, we cannot stress enough that his parents have said they wanted privacy. Then they drop this news out of nowhere. It also takes the limelight away from Princess Eugenie and her husband Jack Brooksbank who welcomed their son last week. We’re still waiting for a name to be announced.
Whether the Sussexes’ announcement was meant to be a nod to Diana is uncertain. Given much Meghan admired her, probably. We’re not knocking that at all. Sussex baby number 2 is going to be loved. However, royal watchers are going to be disappointed when no photos or details are announced.
What We Know
There are no details available as to when Sussex Baby number 2 is due. Judging by the photo that was posted to friend Misan Harriman’s Twitter account, the Duchess is far enough along to be showing. Five to six months possibly would be our guess. All we know is that the photo was taken on an iPad by someone close to the pair. The palace has not posted anything to their social media accounts and we don’t expect them to. After all, the Sussexes are no longer members of the Firm who work. Please don’t argue that Eugenie got an announcement and she doesn’t work for the Queen. We’re aware of that.
Also, the photo that was used for the announcement is the featured image of this post.
We hope that the baby is healthy and that Archie is a good brother. Fingers crossed the child is a girl as we know Harry had hoped for a daughter.
Again, a big congratulations to Harry, Meghan, and Archie.
