We’re not basketball fans, but we couldn’t pass this story by as #RIPKobe is trending on Twitter. Retired NBA legend Kobe Bryant (41) and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna “GiGi” were killed over the weekend in a helicopter crash.
Father and daughter were on the way to a basketball game when their helicopter went down in Calabasas, California at around 10am, according to the LA Times.
CNN reports that Kobe saw Gianna as the heir to his legacy as a celebrated basketball player. She inherited her father’s love of basketball and was known to play the sport.
It’s been reported that all nine people onboard the helicopter were killed which include Kobe and Gianna. Meanwhile, It’s reported by ABC News the victims ‘ bodies were in the process of being extracted from the crash site.
What makes this more sad is the fact that Kobe’s wife, Vanessa, not only lost her husband but one of her daughters too. The Bryants had four daughters; Natalia (17), Gianna (13), Bianka (7) and Capri (7 months).
Our hearts go out to Vanessa, Natalia, Bianka, and Capri as they mourn the lost of their husband, father, and daughter and sister. #RIPKobe
The world is behind the Bryants in this incredibly difficult time in their lives. We also love how the Grammys have paid tribute to Kobe. The basketball legend was also an Oscar Winner after winning an Academy Award for a short film.
Fans have flooded to various locations to pay their respects to their hero. We love you Kobe and GiGi! #RIPKobe.
