Black Widow Theory: Did Nat And Clint Hook Up In Budapest?

Hook Up?; Hawkeye

They’re best friends in the MCU, but what is with the countless mentions of Budapest we keep hearing from Natasha and Clint and does it have anything to do with a hookup?

Their friendship was tragic as they were each other’s family. She served as an honorary aunt to his three children, even becoming a partial namesake for his youngest son. Yep, we’re talking about the friendship between Natasha Romanov and Clint Barton.

Clint’s kids with wife Laura call Natasha ‘Auntie Nat’ and Romanov is close to the family. In Age of Ultron, we discover Laura is pregnant with her and Clint’s third child. She gives birth to Nathaniel Pietro Barton after Ultron’s defeat.

The Bartons agreed to name their child Natasha if Nate turned out to be a girl. This prompted a joke between Nat and Laura when Missus B reveals “Little Natasha” will be “Nathaniel” instead. The former Russian spy jokingly calls her unborn honorary nephew a traitor. Also, the littlest Barton got given the middle name Pietro after the man who saved Clint’s life.

However, this isn’t about the Barton/Romanov bond. It’s about a possible Clintasha hook up during their time in Budapest.

The Budapest Incident

It’s unclear what the Budapest incident is, as nothing has been said officially. According to the first Avengers movie and the MCU fandom site, something went down with Nat claiming, “It’s like Budapest all over again.” Clint then quips, “You and I remember Budapest very differently.”

Nat and Clint would sacrifice themselves for the other. Romanoff died to retrieve the soul stone. Watching Clint look down to see his best friend dead is gut-wrenching. Imagine what he told his kids when he got them back. Lila and Cooper would’ve understood, but Nate wouldn’t have.

A Potential Hook Up May Happen In The Story

Given that Clint is a married man and Nat is basically his sister in all but blood. It might’ve happened but they never to mention the moment. They don’t want to ruin their relationship. We doubt this would happen in the grand scheme of the characters. Sorry, Clintasha shippers, your ship has sunk.

Scarlett Johansson hinted at San Diego Comic Con of a few surprises in the Black Widow film. Clint hasn’t been confirmed to appear, but anything’s possible.

One setting for Black Widow will be Budapest. The country received a mention in Captain Marvel. Whether a fling is what they’re talking about is anyone’s guess.

Perhaps, Natasha seduces her pal, not knowing he’s married. Clint is observant and pretty grounded. That means he’s not stupid enough to let some random woman take advantage of him. No matter what, we will not hold that against them.

Whatever happens, we’ll love it. Natasha is such a beloved character that we don’t care how they write her story. We just want to see her on the big screen one last time to help us recover from her devastating death in Avengers: Endgame. What would’ve been nice to see is a Clint and Natasha solo movie where they go on an adventure and develop the bond we’ve seen on screen before. Nat’s final big-screen outing will leave us spellbound and wanting to see our favorite assassin again.

Black Widow will be released in early 2020, it stars Scarlett Johansson reprising her role as Natasha Romanov/Black Widow while Rachel Weisz, and David Harbour join her as Melina and Alexei, respectively. The film will be directed by Australian director Cate Shortland.
