LeBron James is about to head up the Tune Squad as he searches for his son…
After a year (or two) of delays, we’re finally getting a look at the upcoming Space Jam: A New Legacy. The movie which stars basketballer, LeBron James sees him struggle to be ‘dad’ to his fictional son, Dom. After the kid suddenly disappears, the NBA legend finds himself in an AI reality with the evil AI-Rhythm played by Marvel Cinematic Universe veteran, Don Cheadle.
LeBron then finds himself animated and in the world of the Looney Tunes. This is where he joins forces with Bugs Bunny, Lola Bunny and co to get Dom back. He is also given encouragement from wife Kamiyah (the fictional version of his IRL spouse Savannah) played by Star Trek: Discovery‘s Sonequa Martin-Green. Here’s a look at the trailer:
Welcome To The Tune Squad, Zendaya
In the last 24 hours, we got a new piece of information from Entertainment Weekly regarding the film’s voice cast. They’ve revealed that Emmy Award Winner and another MCU veteran, Michelle Jones “MJ” herself, actress Zendaya had joined the cast as Lola Bunny.
The film will introduce a ‘fully-realised’ version of Lola that was not done in the original Space Jam. It should be noted also she has been given more of a ‘cartoon’ feel to the character.
According to EW, director Malcolm D. Lee felt that Lola was ‘not politically correct’ and couldn’t believe that the filmmakers on the original film had her wearing a crop top in a kids movie. Props to him for making her like every other character on the Tune Squad. We’re also going to be getting her be introduced on Themyscira while seeing a change in her uniform which is equal to her male counterparts on the team. Another goal Lee had was to give her a ‘real voice’ hence the reason why Zendaya was cast.
Warner Brothers Properties Go Wild
During the trailer, LeBron encounters a slew of Warner Brothers properties including Fred Flintstone, Godzilla and Yogi Bear and BooBoo. This movie is going to be totally wild but in the best way possible. Being a 90s baby, the original movie was a staple on rainy days at school. Well, it was either that or Disney’s Flubber.
Space Jam: A New Legacy is going to be bringing back the Looney Tunes to the big screen for the first time since Looney Tunes: Back in Action so we’re thrilled.
