Was the attack on Capitol Hill aimed at Vice President Pence?
Capitol Hill yesterday was the site of violence and upheaval. As the President of the United States, sat behind his desk, he ordered his loyal followers on Twitter to march to the nation’s capital and basically trash it, according to NBC Washington. Four Trump supporters died in the attack. One of which was identified as a woman who had served in the Airforce.
The reason we’re writing this post is because there has been speculation as to why the the attack on Capitol Hill happened at all. Was to fuel yet another last-ditch effort by Trump get the election results overturned? Yes, it was but there was another reason. It’s alleged that the president wanted revenge on VP Mike Pence for doing what he wanted, as per Business Insider Australia.
Pence Taken To Safety
Pence was ushered away by security as the rioters who he had been egged on by Trump stormed Capitol Hill. The president even took to Twitter – to absolutely no one’s surprise – to criticise his own Vice President.
The Tweet read the following, according to Slate:
Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution, giving States a chance to certify a corrected set of facts, not the fraudulent or inaccurate ones which they were asked to previously certify. USA demands the truth!Donald Trump’s tweet targeting Vice President Mike Pence
Thankfully, the Vice President was alright and he returned to finish certifying the electoral college votes. According to the Slate article, the VP’s whereabouts were kept quiet in order to protect him.
Does this attack on Pence by Trump really surprise us? No, it doesn’t. The President doesn’t see that not all people like him. His unhinged behaviour has alarmed a lot of Americans which is why he got voted out in the first place. He is trying to cling to the hope that there will be an 11th hour change and it’s going to be said that they were wrong and that he did actually win the election by the landslide he claimed. Sorry, not going to happen.
Pence is a politician with a job that is still going to be there when he is no longer Vice President. Trump is going to return to Florida and probably break down. As horrible as that is to say, it’s been a long time coming and he knows it.
