“Your library makes our small corner of the world feel big.” – Belle, Beauty and the Beast (2017)

I’ll admit it. I’m a massive nerd and there are other nerds out there. I love books. There is also a place for my love of television. My passion is film. I love trivia. However, being a writer, you need to draw from inspiration.

Like everyone else in the world, I have a busy life as a writer. I spend pretty much every moment writing. However, when I do get out of the house, there’re five items that I do not leave the house without.

1. Book Boyfriend/Girlfriend Lip Balm

I have been known to pick the skin on my lips to the point where they bleed. My friend Gina over at Behind the Pages has created scented lip balm based on book characters. All of Gina’s balms are made of natural ingredients. Just a word of warning, don’t lick it, even by accident. It tastes horrible. Gina even has a warning up on her website about it. People have asked why it tastes bad. The stuff is for your LIPS, people! Not for eatin’! Okay, rant over. The balm smells amazing. It’s as if you’re kissing your favourite characters.

If the balm goes soft due to the heat, put it in the freezer. Leave balm in the freezer too long don’t fret. Just let it thaw out for about half an hour.

2. Typo Buffalo Journal

Being a writer, you need to carry something to write down any ideas you might have. Since a Typo store was added to my local shopping centre, I have bought a few things to make my life easier. One was an apricot coloured buffalo journal. I love the pattern as it is so inspiring and very boho. Perfect for any kind of writing.

3. Pencil Case

You can’t have a notebook in your bag without having a pen to write down your innermost thoughts. I have a small pencil case in my bag so if I need a pen I’ll pull one from there. I use to take my everyday pencil case with me, but it was just too heavy to carry around.

Inside, I have an assortment of pens, a couple of pencils and whatever else might need. The pencil case I bought cheap from Kmart for a couple of dollars. The place has great stationary at a low price.

4. Kwik Mart Bag

Before I bought my new laptop bag, I was always carrying a lot of weight around. My bag was almost on the verge of breaking.

Conversely, when Typo had The Simpsons as its theme, I didn’t hesitate to buy some of the products. Among them was a Kwik Mart tote bag. I actually have two. One came in a pouch that can be folded away. The second one I bought online because I didn’t buy the one I wanted originally. The one that folds away is perfect for storing my bag if I need something to carry stuff in.

5. Paw Paw Ointment

My final item is Paw Paw Ointment. This handy ointment isn’t just to soothe sore lips. It’s great for cuts and dry skin. It can even be used for babies with nappy rash. Neat, huh? I use it as a lip balm.

If you leave the tube of ointment out in the heat, it will do soft. To harden it back up, put it in the freezer for about an hour if not less.

Conclusion

Every writer has their own sacred trove they use in their everyday writing endeavours. These are just a few of mine. Let me know what yours are in the comments.
